While I see you've been hearing it a lot, I just wanted to reiterate my gratitude for the pleasure and inspiration experienced as a result of reading about your travels. I applaud you. I also think you could easily make a business crafting itineraries, since yours seemed so well thought out. All of that aside, I've had the privilege to do quite a bit of traveling throughout CA, thanks to family roots. If you are heading down rt. 1, and end up far south, I would highly recommend seeing Montana de Oro State Park near San Louis Obispo. While I could go on and on, the bottom line is the views, smells, and seclusion of the paths through the eucalyptis that lead out to gold dunes (that you're allowed on) has demanded return visits.
