Halong Bay Tour

by becca on September 30, 2009

Our experience with a two day, one night tour in Halong Bay left a lot to be desired. For instance, not being in lines of tourists, and fish that wasn’t filled with mud. BUT, the photos are nice. The scenery in Halong Bay is amazing: over 2000 islands rising from an emerald colored bay. As Vietnamese legend has it, a dragon created these islands to protect the people from harsh weather and foreign attackers. We went to one cave, which was though very kitschy, also very beautiful. Our tour guide kept saying “cock” referring to rock formations shaped like chickens, but there’s one photo in here that shows why on one point in the tour we couldn’t stop laughing that she was calling this rock formation Budda instead of cock. Enjoy.

Oh, that’s where that is… I have of course seen pictures of HaLong Bay but never managed to place it in Vietnam. Lovely! And not entirely surprising that the place is a tourist trap.

Glad typhoon season brings boredom, rather than all the other things typhoons can bring. Boredom and extended overseas travel are closely linked in my mind. It brings back good memories to read your blog as a partial byproduct of that familiar sentiment.
